1) Get some video software.
I bought Quicktime Pro for Macintosh for $30, since it can capture video from a camcorder (only the Mac version) and since it is cheap.

2) Capture your video.
I bought a DV to Firewire cable to connect my camcorder to my Mac. I opened Quicktime, and then went to File/Record new movie/. I found the spot of video on my camcorder that I wanted to record and hit ‘Play’ button on my camcorder. Then I hit the record button in the Quicktime window. When I had recorded about 10 seconds or so, I clicked ‘Stop’ in Quicktime.

3) Save your file with the least amount of compression.

4) Make sure you have installed the Flash Video Exporter. Since I had Flash on my PC, I first put the video file on a USB flash drive and brought it into my PC where I installed the Video Exporter. It doesn’t automatically install when you install Flash the first time, so I had to get the original install disk and install it separately.

5) From within your video editing program, export the file and choose Quicktime format. The .flv format should show up as a type of format that you can export. If you don’t see that option it probably means you haven’t installed the Video Exporter, or it is not compatible with the particular video editing software you have. Quicktime Pro works and some of the well known expensive programs. Check the link at the bottom of this tutorial for compatible software.

6) Once you choose the .flv option, you will get a number of options which you can change for compressing the file. For details on all the options, check out the link at the end of this tutorial. After you are done exporting the .flv file, open Flash.

7) Create a new Flash document. Save it. I saved mine in the same directory as my video file, but that isn’t necessary.

8) Open the Components panel by clicking on ‘Window/Development Panels/Components/. In the Components panel click the Media Components and drag the MediaPlayback component onto the stage.

9) In the Properties panel, click the Launch Component Inspector button.

10) Make sure the Parameters tab is selected. Make sure the FLV radio button is selected. In the URL field, type in the path or filename of your video file.

11) In the Control Visibility section, click the ON radio button. Close the panel, save your file, and publish it (File/Publish). Now check it out (File/Publish preview).
